“3..2..1..0 - All engines running, liftoff!”
Illustration for National Geographic, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing. 11 artists were asked to create 11 artworks commemorating the anniversary of Apollo 11 mission.
Inspired by the excitement and fascination that the world must have felt during the liftoff of such a groundbreaking expedition, we created an illustration centered on the launch of Apollo 11 from the spectators' viewpoint. The frame around the sky and rocket forms a stylized astronaut helmet, where the moon is reflected in the helmet’s visor. This element symbolizes how the astronauts became windows into space for the millions of people watching the event through the television screen.
